CABLE TV NETWORK LEAKAGE AND CAPTURE CONTROL

Description of Solution

VIASAT GeoTechnologies has a cost-saving solution that really works to control leakage and capture on cable TV networks.

  1. Leakage and capture detection patrols
  2. Web application server to disseminate and manage leakage data (C-Pat server)
  3. Onboard continuous patrol systems (C-Pat Solution).

Leakage and Capture Detection Systems (Audit Patrols)

VIASAT GeoTechnologies has developed its own detection and location technology enabling it to offer the most effective and economic leak audit patrol service available today. Outfitted with these highly automated systems, VIASAT GeoTechnologies patrol units conduct rapid RF detection and accurate GPS positioning of all of a network's leakage points. Capture points on bidirectional networks can also be detected at the same time. The leak indicators (ICR and DER) obtained following VIASAT GeoTechnologies audits are officially recognized by Industry Canada. The service is available across Canada.

Leakage Management System (Web C-Pat Application)

The C-Pat system is based on a server application that manages all patrol results and repair work. The C-Pat application comes with a Web-GIS type of interface so users can easily and instantly access the system's data and various functions. The application integrates patrol results whatever their source: whether results of VIASAT audit patrols, results from continuous patrol systems installed onboard service vehicles, or even results of internal patrols carried out by the operator's maintenance teams. The system's key functions include:

  • automatic integration of patrol data
  • Web distribution of results
  • analysis of results and performance indicators
  • management and allocation of repair work.

Continuous Patrol Service (Continuous AFDD Detection Module)

The continuous patrol service automatically detects leakage points as the service vehicles travel their daily routes. The system uses an automatic leak detection technology that combines a GPS receiver with a wireless communication (Wi-Fi, GPRS or 1X) interface. These detectors installed on the service vehicles constantly find and record leaks as the vehicles roam their territory. Information gathered throughout the day is sent automatically to the C-Pat application via the wireless communication interface.

The continuous patrol service effectively covers the entire territory several times a year or even a month without requiring one other resource or a dedicated patrol.
